World Book Day 2020

World Book Day 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians

Muscliff Primary School will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March 2020. The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading. World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading.

Fancy Dress on Thursday 5th March

This has been a tradition at Muscliff Primary School for over ten years now! We would very much like to carry on this activity and urge all children to come to school dressed as a book character. If your child would like to dress up (and there is no obligation for them to do so) then start thinking about their costume now. There will be a prize for the most imaginative and original costume although simple and undemanding costumes are just as appreciated as the elaborate ones.

Book Token Children will each receive a World Book Day £1 Book Token. The Book Token can be exchanged for one of the eight specially published World Book Day £1 Books or is redeemable against any book of their choice at a participating bookshop. The Book Club pamphlets that often come home will also accept the voucher provided that it is in date.

‘Share a million stories!’

To help promote a love for reading, we are taking part in the World Book Day’s ‘share a million stories’ challenge. Look out for a new box on your reading record to record how many people ‘shared’ in the reading of each of your child’s reads. For example, if your child reads to their sibling, this is 2 shares. Please add your shared reads each week. We will be recording our shared reads in school too to try and hit our whole school target of sharing a million stories throughout the month of March. There will be prizes for the class sharing the most stories each week!

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Miss Patrick, Mr White and Mrs Wood
