Eco Team

As part of this months theme 'Reduce and recycling' the team collected a selection of bins from KS2 classrooms.  In each classroom there is a bin for general waste and one for recycling.

The team emptied the waste from each bag (picture 1 and 2) and were able to see that there was paper in the general waste and plastic items in the recycling bins. Food items were removed from general waste and will be composted.

Between them they identified a considerable amount of waste that should have been in different bins.  They also discussed what could be recycled and what can't.

They concluded that children in school are not aware of the correct bins to use so have decided to make 'bin monster' signs for all bins that will show the children just what can be put in each bin.

Their designs will be used all around school from Reception to KS2 classrooms and should help the children to recycle more.

They also want to hold a competition for each class who can recycle the most.  A certificate will be given to the class who wins.

Watch this space for their 'monster' designs.

Eco Warriors

Welcome to Muscliff Primary School Eco Warrior webpage.  This page will tell you about our brand new Eco Warriors and some of the work we are doing.  We have just recently appointed our new Eco Warriors who are now working hard to encourage the rest of the school to become more eco-friendly.

Why do we have Eco Warriors?

Being an Eco Warrior is an ideal opportunity for our pupils to get move involved in the way our school is run and help us to be more environmentally friendly. It provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made.  Eco Warriors take on the responsibility of expressing their own views, but also the view of their peers as well as passing on information from eco meetings. As an Eco Warrior, pupils have the opportunity to develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation.

What do our Eco Warriors do?

Our Eco Warriors help to care for our school environment: they help others to follow our eco-code, monitor our energy use in the school and encourage teachers and children to recycle. Eco Warriors will take part in discussions and votes and feedback any relevant information to their class. Members will meet regularly with Mrs Harvey to discuss their ideas. The Team have a 'Teams' group that they can use to share ideas and discuss topics.
